Budget Hearing At Library
The annual vote to elect two New Rochelle Library
trustees and to adopt the 2008 - 2009 New Rochelle
Public Library budget will take place on
Tuesday, May 20, from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm,
at the city's school district polling places.
Copies of the proposed budget are available to
the community at the Administrative Office of
the New Rochelle Public Library.
On Monday, May 12 the League of Women Voters is
sponsoring a library trustee candidate's debate at
7:15 pm, in the Ossie Davis Theater.
Registered voters who need to find out the polling location for their
district, or need an absentee ballot,
may call the School District Clerk's office at 576-4219.
Library's International Film
Series
Concludes With Japanese Film
The final film in New Rochelle Public Library's
Spring
International Film series will be the 1993 Japanese
movie, Sonatime, to be shown on Thursday, May 15 at 7:00 pm.
Written and directed by its star,
Takashi Kitano,
the film is about a seasoned mobster who travels to
Okinawa on a "peacekeeping" mission, even though
he suspects that his boss is secretly trying to
eliminate him. The Chicago Tribune called it,
"a brutal, brilliant crime thriller!" It is in Japanese
with English subtitles. A donation of $2.00 is
suggested at the door.
League Of Women Voters
"Coffee
& Conversation" With New City Council
Members"
The New
Rochelle League of Women Voters will host
a "Conversation with New Rochelle's new City
Council Members" at the New Rochelle Public Library
on Friday, May 16, from 9:30 - 11:30 am, in the
library meeting room. The public is invited to meet
City Council members Richard St. Paul, (District #4);
Albert Tarantino, (District #2); and Louis Trangucci,
(District #1), and hear what they have to say about key issues and the
future of New Rochelle.
A question and answer session will follow the
informal presentations. The free program is open
to the public and includes complimentary coffee
and light breakfast fare.

Have your child sign-up for a library card and receive
a special gift, compliments of the Partnership for the Huguenot
Children’s Library.
Jules Bauer Award Show At
Library
The 25th annual Jules Bauer Award Show, sponsored
by the New Rochelle Art Association, will be featured
in the Lumen Winter Gallery of the New Rochelle Public
Library from May 31 to June 21. The show is open to
all exhibiting members of the Association, with a $75
cash prize in Jules Bauer's name to be awarded for best
watercolor. Ribbons will also be awarded for outstanding entries in
all media. Receiving for the
exhibit will be on Saturday, May 31 from 10:00 am
to 11:30 am. The Jules Bauer Memorial Award was established by
his family after his death in November,
1980. A former president of the New Rochelle Art Association, he also
served as chairman of the
Municipal Art Commission and on the Board of Governors at New Rochelle
Hospital Medical Center.
