The
Partnership for the Huguenot Children’s Library
The Huguenot
Children’s Library is
Westchester
County
’s first and only children’s library. The library which opened in 1997 is
entirely dedicated to children and their families, with books, computers,
and activities just for kids. Outside, the library grounds include a plaza
with seating for parents and caregivers adjacent to Jack's
Friendship Garden, a handicapped-accessible playground.
The Huguenot
Children’s Library is the result of an unprecedented community effort
spearheaded by a non-profit, non-partisan citizen’s group, the Partnership
for the Huguenot Children’s Library. Formed in 1993, this group took a
branch library that was closed in 1992, reinvented it as a family
destination and raised the funding needed to renovate and operate the
library.
Today, the
operating funds for the Huguenot Children’s Library
are now part of the
overall voted library budget. Funds to support library enhancements,
special events, building improvements and maintenance are still the
responsibility
of the Partnership.
The Partnership’s
Vision
To inspire a
life-long love of reading and learning through outstanding library
services for all of the children of
New Rochelle.
.
The Partnership’s
Mission
To enhance the excellence of the Huguenot
Children’s Library, and to promote and advocate exceptional children’s
library services within the
New Rochelle
Public
Library System.
