Frequently Asked Questions Can I access the library's online reference databases from my home computer? New Rochelle Public Library cardholders may access many of the online reference resources available at the Westchester Library System from any home computer. Click Newspaper, Magazines & other Databases for links to resources available for remote access. You'll need the barcode number found on the face of your New Rochelle Public Library card or any other Westchester Public Library card.
Does the library accept donations of books, videos. etc.? The Friends of the New Rochelle Public Library organization accepts donations of books in good condition, CDs, DVDs, audio-tapes, cassettes, puzzles, and games. Deliveries should be made between 10 a.m. and 12 noon on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Please call ahead so that the volunteers can be prepared to accept the donation (632-7878, ext. 35). Small donations may be left in the bins in the lobby and at the Registration Desk. Please be considerate of the volunteers who handle the books for the Friends’ Book Sales and Book Store! Donations should not be brought in trash bags, as the materials get damaged. Please do not leave boxes so heavy that the volunteers can’t lift them. The Friends can not accept damaged books or out of date textbooks.

How do you renew materials you have checked out? You may renew items checked out by calling us at: 914-632 7878 ext 1700. You may also use the online catalog to renew items yourself from your patron record. Go to our website www.nrpl.org, click, renew books, review my card OR In person at the library. Most materials can be renewed once, with the exception of Express items and items on hold for another patron.
[Back to top] How do I apply for Library Card? New Rochelle residents and property owners, students attending a local schools, and employees of New Rochelle businesses are all eligible to apply for a New Rochelle Public Library card. Simply bring proof of identity and residency to the registration desk at the library. Residents use a driver’s license or a checkbook with an imprinted name and street address to document residence. Otherwise, they may bring proof of identity, in two of the following to prove residency: rent receipt, property tax bill, electric/gas or telephone bill, a postcard or envelope recently cancelled and delivered by the Postal Service. Students attending college in New Rochelle can use a school ID or a “paid” tuition bill. Employees should provide documentation of employment in New Rochelle. Save time by completing an application to bring to the library.
A non-resident card is issued by the Westchester Library System for anyone not covered above. This card is good at any WLS library and is issued for one (1) year at the cost of $75.00.

How do I give a gift to the library? The New Rochelle Public Library welcomes monetary contributions specifically for book purchases in memorial or to honor named individuals. In addition, the Library welcomes cash contributions, gifts of real property, stocks, and bonds. It is the Library's custom to expend cash gifts on materials, equipment, or a project that is acceptable to the donor. There may be an occasion in which the restrictions set by the donor make it impossible for the Library to accept the contribution.
