About The Business Opportunity Center
The Business
Opportunity Center (BOC) opened in March 2002 and was designed as a
state-of- the-art business information resource created to serve the needs
of the community. It is
result of two years of careful planning
and renovation work made possible
by the generous efforts of the New Rochelle Public Library Foundation.
It is intended to
serve multiple audiences:
-
For
small businesses and entrepreneurs,
it provides advanced technology and reference resources
that will lend
support to their business efforts, including developing, launching and
running small businesses.
-
For
those seeking employment opportunities
(including new immigrants, those returning to the workforce,
out-placed workers, and young professionals) computer workstations
offer career testing programs and employment information.
Equipment for creating, reproducing and emailing resumes and
applications
provides members who do not have home computers a fair
chance to compete in the job market.
Library staff will be trained and available to help jobseekers
use the facilities.
Users of the BOC
will have access to business periodicals and a collection of current
business and finance texts.
There
are six computers that are loaded with business software for resume
writing, practicing Civil Service exams
and to conduct research on the
Internet. Training sessions
on how to use the business software are in the plans.
The BOC is equipped with a 42-inch flat TV monitor, which has both
video and DVD capability, to be used for training.
Currently, staff
assistance will be available:
-
Monday
thru Thursday from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
-
Fridays
10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon
-
